Travel Day to San Diego - Carlsbad

We picked up John, Sara, Wyatt and Morgan at 5:30 am.  They were all ready to go, loaded up the truck and off to MCI to catch our 7:40 am flight on SW for a direct flight to San Diego.

We landed 9:15 am and off to the rental car pickup for our white minivan.

This puts grandpa back in his daddy days of driving a mini-van and it works out great for plenty of seating and cargo area for suitcases and backpacks.

First thing was to find a good place for lunch and we definitely found one in the Gas Lamp District.  The Rockin Baja Lobster with an open window seat.  Luke was our server and did a great job with chips, in house salsa and good food.  Wyatt's chocolate milk was awesome and all the food tasty and on time.

Before lunch we drove around San Diego a bit and spotted the USS Midway on the agenda for a tour later in the week.  Huge yachts and sailboats, Pacific ocean view first time for Wyatt, Morgan and John.  After lunch we made the drive to Carlsbad where we got an early check in at Marbrisa Resort with very close proximity to pool and easy access for unloading.  Our unit consists of a large master suite, shower and out to patio; nice size living room with nice kitchen and table.  The rest are staying in an adjoining bedroom with pull out sleeper sofa, mini kitchen and nice bathroom.

Grandma took the grands to the closet pool, which is a pretty good size and thank goodness momma packed some diving rings to occupy the kids.  No other kids or adults at the pool.  Grandma relaxed in a cabana under the shade.  The grands decided we should catch the shuttle to the other two larger pools.  One had a slide that the grands went down many times and then enjoyed the hot tub.  Before leaving a quick game of Foosball and ping-pong was enjoyed and then minivan pick up from the grocery store crew--grandpa, dad and mom. Sara thought not many groceries were purchased but everyone else thought too much was purchased.  We will see at the end of our stay at Marbrisa who was correct.

Dinner consisted of Walmart not so great pizza, but filled everyone up.  Nice thing about the unit we have is with a kitchen no need to pack up and go out for dinner every night.  Paid off after such an early start for the day and gaining 2 hours with time zones.

Grands played on their tablets and the old folks talked and enjoyed the evening and finally at 8:45, grandpa said he was going to bed and everyone was excited that he finally called it and everyone crashed.
